The importance of customs and traditions in a country is enormous, if one considers the hundreds of years that remain alive and do not disappear in the dustbin of history. They are a value and the identity of every nation!
Greece is one of the countries that respect and preserve customs and traditions to a great extent.
The island festivals turn Tinos in July, August, and autumn into a vast celebration and color, with special touches, the summers of both locals and visitors of each island.
In Tinos, the Greek island with the greatest religious devotion, festivals are organized imbued with both a strong religious feeling and customs from ancient times. The great feasts and the August festivals are either associated with the Virgin Mary, protector of the island, or with the worship of another Saint. On the day of the celebration of a Saint, majestic masses are held in all the churches and chapels of the island, followed by a treat with traditional dishes in the courtyard.
Each festival has its traditional dish, and all households are open for both locals and foreigners, who taste the offered local dishes and the wine that flows abundantly.
New generation and traditions..!
Young people are the ones who have shouldered the burden of preserving traditions for future generations. They are the ones who have realized their role in the traditions and that they are now part of them. With prudence and responsibility they continue , like the previous ones..!
These young people, use all the means at their disposal to highlight the tradition. The rapid development of technology helps them to show the whole world Greek customs and traditions, traditional events. They organize events of cultural memory, in traditional clubs, cultural roofs, and youth centers.
The young generation, through their actions, activates cultural authorities in charge to support these efforts.
They deal with our traditions, broadening their horizons, and finding role models that offer them something essential and spiritual.
They are well aware that without our tradition, our history, our customs and traditions, we are lost!
